We were commissioned to reshape the two-story building covering more than 800 square meters. We designed and constructed general spaces for the daily operation of the museum, including the entrance hall, information and ticket counter, staff offices and more. In addition to the operating areas, we were in charge of the main gallery on the ground floor, where we designed, planned, produced and installed the permanent exhibition - “The World of the Philistine's”.
The design concept of the exhibition was inspired by the forms and shapes of archaeological sherds. By using white Corian, a modern design material, for the base structure of the podiums, we created a sleek and timeless atmosphere. In contrast to it, we chose a dark blue color for the walls to represent the ancient culture associated with the Aegean Sea.
An important part of the exhibition was the interactive section, where a large multi-media table was set up with advanced camera projection technology, allowing up to 24 visitors simultaneously play collectively, simulating the working process of archaeological excavation and reconstruction of archaeological findings.
The experience continued to the underground floor of the museum, where visitors descended into a large hall that we reconstructed with authentic ornamental motifs from Philistine and Mycenaean architecture. The multi-functional space is an area for educational role-playing theater and learning workshops. By request, the museum hosts special Philistine banquets in this space where visitors are invited to taste the ancient cuisine and revive the legendary culture.
The project was commissioned by Municipal Company for Culture & Leisure in Ashdod Ltd.
