This exhibition is the main gallery in the museum. Inspired by Alfred Hitchcock’s 1963 classic "The Birds”, the display of the exhibition is entirely composed of freestanding poses of exhibiting birds, mammals, marine lives and even insects. It showcases the rich and fascinating collection to which numerous scientists and researchers have contributed their work in discovering and documenting the biodiversity in the region for the past century.
By using the “open space” design discipline, we divided the space in sections using five different podiums highlighting a clear pavilion contour without any architectural division. This forms a natural focal point for the visitors to keep their attention in the center of the exhibition despite being in the spatially long and narrow gallery.
Creating this exhibition was extremely difficult and challenging, mainly due to managing the sheer number of delicate objects of all shapes and sizes which had to be individually handled and installed with the greatest care so that they could be displayed in perfect exhibiting condition.
“The Father Schmitz Collection”
Our inspiration for the design of this rare and unique collection comes from the so-called “Cabinet of curiosities (Wunderkammer)”, which was the common format to display collections of objects among nobles and scientists in the 17th and 18th centuries. We created an intimate chamber inside the gallery to house a constellation of forms, colors and textures. Our installation masterpiece transformed the massive collection into one mesmerizing vision.
